About Money & Business

Money & Business provides students with the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, sales, marketing and money management, in an interactive real-world environment. Students will learn how to start a business by creating a business plan and focusing on the elements that go into a successful business, such as, sales & marketing, product development, pricing strategies, personal & business accounting, business communication, and leadership.

Guest speakers from different industries join our class multiple times per month to give real-world insight into how business plays an integral role in every industry and job. Students will have the opportunity to compete in a CTE club as well as a hands-on-experience during an internship at a local business.

Meet the Teacher

Liam Cary-Eaves

Liam Cary-Eaves is the Money and Business instructor at NCTA in Mount Vernon. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a dual degree in Mass Communication and Psychology, obtained a master’s degree in Communication Leadership from the University of Washington, and acquired a master’s degree in Teaching from Western Washington University. Liam has a passion for working with students to prepare for leadership roles and career preparedness. During his time as a Communication Consultant for University Housing at Western Washington University (WWU), he led student employees through marketing and communication campaigns before becoming the Publicity Center Manager to run the campus print and marketing shop for the Associated Students. Liam has worked as a marketing and communications professional for several different organizations including WWU, the Bellingham Bells, Boys and Girls Club of King County, LegUp – connecting working professionals to affordable childcare, and Eluna – helping families impacted by grief or addiction. As a consultant for non-profit and for-profit organizations, he obtained invaluable experience and insight for the different ways in which businesses function and operate. In his spare time, Liam can be found hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding around the Pacific Northwest with his wife and two dogs, on the baseball diamond as a coach for Mount Vernon High School, or dining at local restaurants in search for the spiciest foods.
