About Core Plus Maritime

Core Plus Maritime offers a hands-on curriculum focused on the skills necessary for employment in the marine industry. Our program is based at the Anacortes Campus next to the Cap Sante Marina and the waterfront. Students will learn safe boat handling & navigation skills, maintenance & preservation of vessels, manufacturing materials, Gelcoat & fiberglass repair, basic marine electrical & electronics, introduction to marine propulsion & engines, boat trailer usage & repair, marina operations, and customer service skills.

While in the program, students are able to earn the Washington State Safe Boating Program Certification and First Aid/CPR/AED certification. This course uses strong industry-based curriculum from American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) Marine Services Technology and the Washington State Core Plus Maritime program.

Meet the Teacher

Brent Moore

I have spent my life moving around the world, but I always feel a strong connection to the water. After living in four countries and seven states, my wife and I settled in Anacortes in 2017. In 2020, we transitioned from our sailboat to a home in Skyline. I served in the Air Force as a C130 Crew Chief and earned my Aviation Maintenance Technician license after my service. After purchasing a sailboat and deciding to cruise with my wife, I adjusted my sails and returned to school to earn my Diesel Technology Degree. Since then, I have been repairing boats, commissioning new ones, and managing boatyards. For the last several years of my previous career, I served as a Marine Technical Advisor for NCTA. Whether I'm sailing, powerboating, crabbing, or kayaking, I have a deep passion for all things marine-related and for building the next generation of maritime professionals.
