About Core Plus Construction

NCTA's Construction course helps students develop the entry-level skills needed in residential electrical wiring, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry. Students will learn about work-site safety, construction-based applied math, safe use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, communication skills, employability skills, material handling, framing skills, and the basics of residential electrical and plumbing.

The program helps students explore a variety of construction-related career opportunities, develops appropriate work-readiness skills, and prepares them to enter construction-related apprenticeships, post-secondary education programs, or entry-level jobs.

Meet the Teacher

Lou Sabatini

Lou Sabatini relocated from the east coast to the Pacific Northwest in 2019. He has an extensive background in the construction industry. Lou started working as a general laborer with his father’s company during the summers while he was in high school. He eventually became an apprentice carpenter working with the company.

Lou moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in the early 1970s where he became a journeyman carpenter. After four years in Alaska, he came back to Maryland and became a partner in the family construction business. He oversaw the daily operation of the business in the field as an overall project manager. Later in his career, Lou became a licensed home inspector and held that position for 24 years before selling his business and moving to Washington State to be closer to his son and family.
